PINK STRAT
THE ACCLAIMED DEBUT FROM BAHAMAS
TO BE RELEASED IN THE U.S. MAY 17TH

U.S. TOUR ANNOUNCED
WITH NOAH AND THE WHALE

NASHVILLE, TN – Pink Strat, the critically acclaimed Canadian debut album from Bahamas, is set for a stateside release through Brushfire Records on May 17thPink Strat is a lo-fi, sparse effort that defies genre classification. In 2010, Pink Strat received a Juno nomination (Canadian Grammy equivalent) for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year – Solo and was nominated for the 2010 Polaris Music Prize (Canadian Mercury Prize equivalent) for Best Canadian Album of the Year. Pink Strat will be release on CD and vinyl, with the first 500 produced on pink vinyl.

Bahamas is a moniker for Afie Jurvanen (pronounced AY-fee), a much sought-after sideman who spent three years as a guitarist/pianist for Feist, as well as many others. Jurvanen’s songwriting is filled with thoughtful storytelling, peculiar romance and quirky observations. The depth to Jurvanen’s songs and richness of his minimalist arrangements continue to unfold upon each listen to Pink Strat. The album title was inspired by the guitar Jurvanen began playing during his childhood, traveled the world with as a hired gun and eventually wrote the songs on that would become Pink Strat.

Pink Strat slowly developed a strong reputation in the music community leading to a Canadian tour supporting Wilco, as well as opening dates with Elvis Costello, The Weakerthans and the Sam Roberts Band.

Bahamas will embark on its first major U.S. tour as support for Noah and The Whale on 18+ dates. The cross-country tour will include shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New Orleans and New York City. See confirmed tour dates below.

Afie Jurvanen* isn’t from the Bahamas. He’s a Finnish-Canadian from Barrie--a working class town in rural Ontario. But his chosen epithet is fitting. Since 2009 he’s been making music under the name Bahamas--writing songs about sunsets, love affairs, and making out with crooked smiles. Through simple arrangements, he charts an escape route from the snow belt to the coral reefs.

Pink Strat is a collection of beautiful storytelling, of sincere and plodding romances, tinged with nostalgia. It is named after the guitar that’s seen him through since his early days as a sideman playing for the likes of Jason Collett and Amy Milan. Like Robbie Robertson once did, Afie turned his own band into a back-up band, before hitting the road to play with Feist for three years. When he finally returned home with no band left of his own and a suitcase of songs, he began recording what would become his debut album.

Since its Canada-only release in 2009, Pink Strat has slowly grown a strong following amongst musicians--leading to touring with Wilco and opening slots for Elvis Costello, Calexico, The Weakerthans, and Sam Roberts. In 2010, Pink Stratwas nominated for the Polaris Prize (Canada's Mercury Prize), and a Juno (Canada's Grammy Award) for 'Roots/Traditional Album Of The Year'.
